CTV’s Williams joins Rogers Cable Systems

Rogers Cable Systems has hired Drew Williams away from the executive offices of the CTV Television Network, where he was director of marketing, to become vice-president of marketing, reporting to Rudi Engel, executive vice-president, sales and marketing.

Engel says the hiring is part of a reorganization under way at Rogers Cable ‘to ensure that we are ready for competition [from the telcos.]’

As part of the reorganization, Engel recently added marketing to his responsibilities. Previously, his focus was on the sales side of the company.

According to Engel, Rogers Cable realized after the consumer revolt earlier this year against the pricing policies of the cable companies that it had to pay more attention to its public image.

He says Williams will focus on polishing that image as well as developing brand awareness and recognition.

Other recent hires at Rogers include: Ralph Brezina as director of emerging technologies; Joel Herzog, from Procter & Gamble, as pay tv product manager; Stephen Bartkiw, from Southam, as director of online services; and Don Moffatt, from Bell Canada, as vice-president, call centre operations.
