Rogers Cantel has appointed Kathy McLaughlin as vice-president and general manager, British Columbia.
McLaughlin was previously vice-president, marketing, Cantel West.
In her new role, she will be the company’s senior b.c. representative, with responsibilities for sales and local market operations.
McLaughlin’s new appointment comes on the heels of a company reorganization that saw the shift of Cantel’s upper-level marketing decision-making from its four regional offices to its headquarters in Toronto.
– Toronto-based Great Brands of Europe has named M. Jean-Jacques Fredj as its new chief operating officer.
Great Brands is the Canadian subsidiary of BSN Group of France.
Previously, Fredj was with bsn’s Japanese subsidiary, where he handled the company’s Evian and Kronenbourg operations.
Great Brands of Europe imports and distributes Evian natural spring water, Kronenbourg lager, Tourtel 0.5% alcohol beer, and Ferrarelle sparkling mineral water.
– Lyons Tetley Canada has named Glynne Jones as president and director of the company.
Jones, who was previously vice-president of sales, replaces C. A. Robinson, who has retired but will remain with the company in a consulting capacity for at least a year.
Also, Nick Kilby has been appointed to the newly-created post of marketing manager. Previously, Lyons Tetley Canada’s marketing department was managed from its head office in the u.k.
Most recently, Kilby, who has more than 10 years’ experience in the tea industry, was commercial export manager for Lyons Tetley International of Greenford, England.
– Sunquest Incentive Travel of Toronto has appointed Terance Sloan as vice-president, incentives.
Before joining Sunquest, Sloan spent 16 years with Kinney Canada as manager of corporate administration.
– John Cooper, former group product manager at Quaker Oats, has been appointed managing director, marketing for Federal Express Canada in Mississauga, Ont.
Cooper joined Quaker Oats as senior marketing manager in 1987 after six years at General Mills where he held increasing responsibilities in marketing.

Mark Hilltout, creative head of Ogilvy & Mather Toronto, is moving to Ogilvy & Mather New York by mid-December as executive creative director reporting to Bill Hamilton, the agency’s North American creative head.
Hilltout joined the Toronto agency three years ago after five years as executive director with O&M Hong Kong.
His advertising career, which began 22 years ago in Birmingham, England, has been interpersed with stints of travel, photography and hotel management.
Hilltout first joined o&m in 1981 as creative group head in Johannesburg, South Africa, where he stayed for four years.
Tro Piliguian, agency chairman and chief executive officer, says a new creative director will be in place by the beginning of the new year.
Piliguian is looking for Hilltout’s replacement within and outside the o&m network.
Also at O&M Toronto, Lisa Elder and Heather Fraser, both previously senior vice-president account director, have been promoted to co-managing directors to replace Dennis Stief, who left in September after 12 years to become president of Ammirati and Puris, Toronto.
The co-managing directors will also continue to be responsible for the account groups.
Elder, who has been with o&m since 1980, most recently has been responsible for Kraft General Foods and Kimberly-Clark accounts.
Before joining o&m in 1989, Fraser was with Procter & Gamble for 10 years, first in consumer research and later in marketing.
She has been handling the American Express, Campbell Soup and Nestle Confectionery accounts.
– Jennifer Spencer has been named president and chief executive officer of Veritas Communications of Toronto, a new health care communications firm formed by mdc.
Spencer, who has 10 years’ experience in the field, was most recently vice-president and director of National PharmaCom, a division of National Public Relations.
Before that, she was managing director of the Kerbel Health Care Group.
A former magazine editor, Spencer started her public relations career at Burson-Marsteller, Toronto.
– Three new staffers have joined the team at Can-Asian Advertising of Toronto, including account manager Shirley Lo and Christopher Bhang.
Lo brings more than 10 years of corporate and communications experience to her new post, including a stint with Ogilvy & Mather Direct, Hong Kong working with Chase Manhattan Bank, Philips, Canadian Pacific Airlines International and Piaget & Baume & Mercier.
Bhang most recently was with Ogilvy & Mather, India for eight years as account manager for Mattel, Digital, Cadbury’s and Lever Bros.
Albert Chan has also signed on with Can-Asian. Chan has more than 15 years of design and creative experience at Meridian Advertising and Hyatt Regency, Hong Kong.
