Tribal DDB Toronto rocks the Webby’s

Famous for its “five-word speech” restrictions, the Webby awards will see Tribal DDB Toronto spending enough time on stage to express about a full sentence of thanks.

On Tuesday, the agency was announced the winner of four Webby awards for its McDonald’s “Your Questions. Our Answers” campaign. The red carpet and stage event is set to take place in New York on May 22.

The Toronto arm won an award for Best Integrated Campaign, another for Best Food & Beverage Website, and two more for Best Customer Service. The award-winning campaign saw McDonald’s shift away from its traditional marketing approach – inviting Canadians to ask the QSR any question pertaining to its product offerings in exchange for an honest and direct answer from the brand. The slew of wins for the Toronto arm contributed to Tribal DDB winning the sought-after Agency of the Year Webby award.

Yulu Communications and MetaLab also made the Canadian winner’s list, taking home two trophies in the Best Events (Handheld Devices) category for its TED Connect app. The mobile application, which incorporated check-in features similar to Foursquare, enabled TED talk attendees in Vancouver to share contact details and keep in touch with other attendees they met at the conference.

Yulu also snagged an award in the Best Charitable Organization/Non-Profit Website category for its website created for Canadian charity Fuck Cancer.

In addition, the National Film Board (NFB)  took home a Best NetArt (General Website) Webby for Bear 71. The NFB interactive web-doc shows footage of a grizzly bear in the Banff National Park via trail cameras and allows website visitors to follow the bear’s movements by scrolling over different cameras.
