Over the past 109 years, the end of McKim Communications, Canada’s oldest advertising agency, has been reported many times, but never with more kindness than in a recent supplement to Strategy (‘McKim gets vote of confidence, new name’, Dec. 7, 1998). It was with great pride that we noted your recognition of our founder and his creation of the first advertising agency in this country.

Unfortunately, your conclusion that the Optimum Media Direction deal effectively signals the end of the oldest chapter in Canadian advertising is in error. McKim Communications continues to operate happily and successfully in Winnipeg where we have been since 1907. Comfortably ensconced in the heart of the country, we continue to serve national and international clients from coast to coast.
