14 Canadian agencies earn LIA honours

Gold for Blue Hive, DDB, Juniper Park, JWT and Leo Burnett

Eleven Canadian agencies are leaving the 2015 LIAs (formerly the London International Advertising Awards) with trophies in-hand, and another three have earned coveted “Finalist” status.

GoldLIAJuniper Park and Leo Burnett Toronto earned two golds apiece in addition to other awards. DDB Vancouver, Blue Hive and J. Walter Thompson (JWT) also won gold.

JWT earned the most awards of the Canadian contingent with 10 honours in total, including 8 gold, silver and bronze Statues. Rethink also racked up an impressive tally of five statues and an additional seven Finalist rankings. (See full winners list below)

“LIA prides itself on having juries that have no political agenda, no block voting, and no pressure to vote for their network,” said Barbara Levy, LIA president, in a release. “Our juries are only concerned with awarding the best of the best. Obtaining a Statue is a significant milestone for any company, as it demonstrates recognition of the highest degree.”

LIAs are awarded by category juries, which this year met over a 10-day period in Las Vegas. The more than 14,000 submissions were scored ahead of group discussions to award standings of gold, silver, bronze and finalist, as well as the Grand LIA.

A number of Canadians served on this year’s juries. Tom Eymundson, CEO of Pirate Group, led the five-member Radio & Audio jury as its president this year. Steve Mykolyn, a partner at Castor (and formerly the creative boss at Taxi) sat on the Non-Traditional category jury, while Brent Choi, chief creative and integration officer at J. Walter Thompson Canada, served on the Digital jury.
