Ferg Devins, chief corporate affairs officer at Molson Coors Canada, is leaving the company after a 30-year tenure with plans to open his own Toronto-based communications consultancy called TheDevinsNetwork early next year.

The chief corporate affairs position no longer exists as a result of recent restructuring within Molson Coors Canada, Devins told Marketing. Devins was advised of the decision Nov. 26. His last day with the company is Dec. 31.

Devins will continue to work with Molson Coors Canada, however. The beer company has signed on as Devins’ first client. Details surrounding the services and projects Devins will oversee are still in the works, he said.

“After 30 years in a corporate environment I thought I’d see what it’s like to be an entrepreneur and an independent… I thought I’d throw up a shingle and see what might come my way,” said Devins of the decision to open his own consultancy firm.

Devins started with Molson Coors Canada in 1981 as a summer field representative in his hometown of Kenora, Ont. He traveled across north western Ontario visiting tourist camps, conducting live media reports from festivals and events.

Over the next three decades he held a number of sales, communications and marketing positions including director, field marketing, director of corporate affairs for Ontario and Western Canada, and VP government and public affairs.

Though its still early days, Devins said he is seeking additional opportunities to work with brands from across the country.
