Cannes 2015: Al Gore to receive Cannes LionHeart

Former US VP honoured for his efforts to combat the dangers of climate change

Al Gore is being recognized with the Cannes LionHeart Award at this year’s Cannes Lions International Festival of Creativity for his work involving climate change.

The honorary award, introduced last year (and awarded to Bono), recognizes an individual who has made a significant and positive difference to people or the planet through their commercial brand power. The former vice president has done just that with his dedication to solving the climate crisis. He has authored a series of bestselling books on the topic, and in 2007 was the co-recipient of the Nobel Peace Prize.

In a release, Terry Savage, chairman of Lions Festivals, said it was “incredibly humbling to be able to give the Cannes LionHeart to a man that had achieved so much, particularly in his devotion to solving the global climate crisis.”

Gore will also be on hand for the Cannes Debate with Sir Martin Sorrell on Friday June 26., discussing Live Earth: the Road to Paris, the Climate Reality Project  — an advocacy group he founded that seeks to solve the climate change issue– and the role of communications in political and environmental campaigns.
