Scott Atkinson has been appointed to the newly created role of vice-president, digital media at Starcom MediaVest Group.

Atkinson was most recently managing director, digital solutions at Media Experts, and stepped into his new role last week.

He is spearheading digital strategy and activation for TD at SMG, and commented in a release that he’s excited to bring innovative ideas to the Canadian market with “the resources of a global agency.”

Atkinson has roughly two decades of digital experience. He is currently chair of IAB’s agency council, and also previously helped on its privacy and policy council.

While at Media Experts, Atkinson played an important part of creating Xpeto, the agency’s trading desk.

He also has thorough knowledge about online behavioural advertising (OBA), and advocated in a Marketing article earlier this year that “Agencies who engage in any type of OBA need to know what the risks are for their clients, the marketers, and themselves because at some point everybody has a role to play in giving consumers choice.”

SMG SVP, digital media, Jeff Thibodeau, said Atkinson “is a true industry partner when it comes to understanding client needs and developing digital solutions that will deliver immediate value.”

Atkinson has previously held positions at Media Buying Services (MBS) and MediaCom Canada.
