BBDO leads Canadian agencies on Clio shortlist

Competition shortlists for the 2012 Clio Awards were announced yesterday, with Toronto agency BBDO earning eight nominations.

BBDO Toronto’s work for Skittles earned three nominations: two for “Touch the Rainbow” in the Content and Contact and Innovative Media categories and one for “Cat” in the Online Film category. Also nominated in the Online Film category is the agency’s work for Shaw Expo titled, “Car Chase,” while “Running” for the Canadian Paralympic Committee earned a Television/Cinema nod in the Film category.

BBDO was also shortlisted in the Out of Home category for its “Early Detection” poster for the Ontario Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care and its Canadian Paralympic Committee “Unstoppable” billboard. “Unstoppable” also made the shortlist in the Print – Public Service category.

A close second to BBDO was Lowe Roche, with five nominations. The Toronto agency was shortlisted twice for its out-of-home campaign for the film Contagion, earning nods in the Billboard and Ambient categories for its “Bacteria Billboards” creative. The shop was also named in the Corporate Identity field for its work for TFO and in the Microsite/Website and Public Relations categories for its “A Personal Apology” site on behalf of Johnson & Johnson’s O.B. tampon brand.

DDB Canada earned four nods in the Film category: two for Toronto Crime Stoppers “Anonymous” in Television/Cinema, and one a piece for its work on the Cialis and Power Smart brands. The agency also shares a nomination with Karacters Vancouver in the Corporate Identity category for their Skuna Bay, Vancouver Island, Craft Raised Salmon work.

Taxi Canada, Leo Burnett, Cundari and Sid Lee were each shortlisted twice. In Taxi’s case, both nominations came for its work on behalf of Edward Pond, which was lauded in the Corporate Identity and Self-Promotion categories.

Leo Burnett’s two shortlisted entries came in the Environmental and Point of Purchase categories, both for the Toronto firm’s work on behalf of Smith Restaurant and Bar.

Montreal’s Sid Lee made the Environmental shortlist with its work for Bota Bota, while Sid Lee Architecture featured in the same category for its Red Bull Amsterdam work.

Toronto’s Cundari appeared on the Apps/Mobile shortlist for its Sick Kids Hospital Cancer Monitoring creation and was also nominated in the interactive “Other” category for BMW’s MPowered Films.

Juniper Park and Reason Partners, both of Toronto, also made the shortlist once apiece. Juniper Park’s nomination came in the Design: Environmental category for its Virgin Mobile work, while Reason Partners earned a spot for CIL Paints “Paint Chips for Men” campaign.

The Clios introduced a new category, Facebook Integrated Media, for this year’s program, but no Canadian entry made the shortlist.
