The British Columbia Hockey League is partnering with Kommunity Hockey, further justifying Scot Keith‘s decision to open a hockey-focused division of his Vancouver agency.

According to Keith, Kommunity’s president, his latest client “is a huge feeder into the NHL,” shaping hockey greats such as Dave “Tiger” Williams, Geoff Courtnall and Milan Lucic.

“Those arenas are full,” he said. “These are the real hockey people who live and breathe hockey, so there’s lots of potential for clients, especially in these small communities like Prince George or Salmon Arm, the arena is the heart of the community. That’s where everything goes on.”

Founded in 1961, the league represents 15 teams of 15- to 20-year olds across the province. The league slogan is “Smart Hockey,” and Keith said they will work to brand the league.

The league already attracts sponsors such as Kal Tire, Save on Foods, Labatt, BC Hydro and Subway that target an 18-49 demographic.

The agency will work to develop other sponsorships as well as a social media strategy and promotions around the League’s 2013 Western Canada Cup and the inaugural Showcase Weekend that will launch the 2012/2013 season in Nanaimo next May.

“The bottom line is that we are trying to help grow that property and take it to a whole other level, and then we’ll just grow with it,” said Keith.
