Toronto-based agency Blammo Worldwide has named Michael Murray its new partner and chief creative officer, effective Feb. 22.
Murray was previously executive creative director at CP+B Canada, which he left when it began operating as Union. Prior to that, he spent two years at Taxi.
The move to Blammo comes just days after Andrew Simon announced his departure from the agency and subsequent new role as CCO of Cundari.
Alan Gee, Blammo’s chairman, said that he’s proud to have Murray on board.
“He’s a great creative talent and has worked at some of the top advertising shops in Canada,” said Gee in a statement. He also noted Murray’s breadth of industry understanding and diverse portfolio. “He’s a perfect fit with our culture because he’s very collaborative, media neutral and therefore comfortable in all facets of the communications mix.”
By phone, Gee added that a long-list of fifteen potential replacements for Simon was drawn up by Blammo. Murray was ultimately the standout, because “he ticked all the boxes that were simpatico with where Blammo is going and how we’re evolving and developing.” Murray will work in all aspects of Blammo’s creative work, said Gee.
Murray’s appointment follows the hiring of Christine McNab, Blammo’s managing director, and Ritchie Emslie, its chief strategic officer, who both joined the agency late last year.
