Canada’s Hottest Ads: Canada’s faves in 2015

Several Canadian ads made the annual ranking, but didn't do so well in November

It seems Clash of Clans’ animated barbarians and wizards are compelling enough to dominate more than the App Store. One of the animated ads for the mobile game was the most-watched ad on YouTube in Canada this year. It sits atop a list that includes a range of products and creative strategies… a few of which even came from Canada.

The YouTube Canada Ad Leaderboard ranks the ads that were most-watched within Canada. To be included, a video must have at least some component to its YouTube media placement.

Clash of Clans has been a favourite among Canadians throughout the year. Its made several monthly rankings for its clever use of celebrities and standalone animated shorts using characters from the game.

Leo Burnett‘s “Unstoppable” — the second phase of its #LikeAGirl campaign for P&G’s Always brand — is Canada’s best-performing spot on the list, garnering more than 38 million global views since being posted in July (Google does not release Canadian viewer numbers).

Quaker Canada’s “The Recital” from BBDO Toronto appears in the eighth slot, followed by Leo Burnett‘s “#WhoWillYouHelp” for the Ontario Government, and J. Walter Thompson‘s “Drive Thru Rookies” for Tim Hortons.

However, Canadian creative is conspicuously absent from the most recent monthly ranking of top YouTube hits (see below). The recently released November ad leaderboard is awash in Christmas cheer — mostly from Europe — with a few appearances from frequent contenders such as GoPro and Buzzfeed.

Note: This ranking indicates which ads were most-watched within Canada. To be included on this ranking, a video must be listed as an ad on YouTube. While Google does not make Canadian viewer statistics available, it determines this ranking with a process that accounts for paid and organic views and how much of a given video viewers watch.
