Toronto-based gaming company Throwback Entertainment has signed Carlaw Communications as its first-ever public relations agency of record.

Carlaw will be responsible for all PR activity in Canada including media relations and influencer strategy.

Carlaw was introduced to Throwback through mutual contacts, says Carlaw partner Lauren Wasley. Several agencies were interviewed during a months-long hiring process.

“While they were impressed with our credentials, it ultimately came down to our thinking,” Wasley says. “We came in with a solid strategy to build the brand and support its gaming catalog and we were very much aligned in the PR approach.”

Throwback Entertainment develops games and revitalizes classic titles by adapting them to modern platforms such as mobile. Popular franchises include Vexx, Extreme G Racing and Gladiator: Sword of Vengeance.

“As a company we have grown exponentially both in terms of our team and our product offerings,” said Throwback Entertainment president Robert Maduri, in a statement. “It’s time to elevate our game and we are confident that Carlaw can help us achieve more widespread awareness for our company and catalog.”

The company has sold more than 200 million games worldwide with accumulated revenues of more than $3.5 billion.

Wasley says she expects the company’s “nostalgic factor will really resonate with millennials.”
