Toronto-based Charming Media Inc. has been hired by Skechers to handle public relations in Canada.

The PR and social media agency is working on securing high-profile media coverage for the shoe company, which sells athletic, casual and dress styles for men, women and children.

“Skechers is really looking to get in the forefront of television and print media,” said Valerie Stachurski, founder and president at Charming Media, adding that the company’s past PR efforts relied heavily on blogger outreach.

Charming Media is targeting magazines such as Fashion, Elle and Chatelaine, as well as TV programs such as Cityline, where Skechers will make an appearance on an upcoming show.

Part of Skechers’ goal is to get more young professionals to wear the brand, said Stachurski. “A lot of people know Skechers as something you wore when you were in high school,” she said. “They want to start [targeting] people from the 25 to 35 arena and focus more on their men’s looks as well.”

Skechers is headquartered in Manhattan Beach, Calif. and has a Canadian office in Mississauga, Ont.

Charming Media, which counts Turkish Airlines and StyleDemocracy among its clients, also recently added Epic Blend—a line of premium lip balm—to its roster.
