Keith Dagg is retiring from Copeland Communications, the Victoria, B.C.-based advertising agency he co-founded in 1980.

“When we opened up Copeland, there were no advertising agencies in Victoria then and there was definitely a need for a full service agency,” said the 73-year-old agency chairman.

Dagg leaves management in the hands of his son Steven Dagg, who is president and general manager, and managing director Doug Brown.

“The company has never been in better shape,” the elder Dagg said. “Copeland has a wonderful, talented young staff and the client list has never been stronger.”

Copeland won back the B.C. Ferries account from DDB Canada last February. Other clients include Island Credit Savings Union, the Carson Automotive Group and the Oak Bay Marine Group.

Dagg plans to start a consulting business for community events such as the Times Colonist Open golf tournament he started in 1981.
