Corus Radio promotes Chris Sisam to GM of Toronto, Hamilton stations

Broadcast veteran charged with oversight of key stations

Corus Entertainment has promoted Chris Sisam, previously general manger of its Western Ontario cluster, to GM of its Toronto and Hamilton stations. His appointment is effective immediately.

Under his new role, Sisam will now provide leadership for the company’s three Toronto stations (Q107, 102.1 the Edge and Talk Radio AM640) while continuing to oversee the company’s Hamilton stations, including 95.3 Fresh Radio, Y108 and AM900 CHML.

Prior to taking over as GM of the media company’s Western Ontario operations, where he oversaw the Hamilton, London, Kitchener and Guelph markets, Sisam was GM of Corus Radio’s Toronto operations and vice-president of sales.

“[Sisam’s] proven track record of driving revenue and achieving success in our radio markets will be a tremendous asset to our Toronto operations,” said Corus Radio and Corus Média president Mario Cecchini, in a release.

Corus Radio’s 39 stations recorded revenues of $36.3 million for the three months ended Feb. 28, down 8% from $39.3 million in the year-earlier period. Segment profit fell 26%, to $6.2 million from $8.5 million the previous year.

In its earnings report, the company attributed the decline to soft ratings and advertising challenges in key markets, but said the repositioning of some large stations has translated into improved ratings, particularly in Vancouver and, to a lesser extent, Toronto.

Sisam brings more than 25 years of sales and management experience to his new role. He is a member of Numeris’ radio executive committee and has served on the boards of both the National Advertising Benevolent Society (NABS) and Canadian Broadcast Sales (CBS).
