Cossette Media’s Toronto office is getting ready to Rumble.

The Vision7 International-owned media agency has hired Mike Rumble as vice-president and managing director. His appointment is effective April 1.

Rumble replaces Terry Horton, who has been with Cossette since 1998 and has spent the past three years as vice-president, media director with the agency’s Toronto office. Horton is leaving the agency to “pursue new career challenges,” according to a release.

Pierre Delagrave, president, media, for Cossette owner Vision7 International and one of Cossette’s founding partners, said Rumble’s hire is the result of the company’s first external search in 30 years. The company’s senior appointments are typically the result of internal promotions, he said.

“We like to keep our people, but people have so many opportunities, especially in Toronto,” said Delagrave, who noted that Rumble was selected from several candidates.

Rumble appealed to Cossette because of his experience in connection planning and his work in different markets such as Vancouver. His most recent role was as director of connection planning at Taxi in Toronto. Prior to that, he spent five years at Media Experts as VP of customer service. His career has also included stops at M2 Universal and OMD Canada.

Delagrave praised Rumble’s client skills and his capacity for strategic thinking.

“You have to accept that people who lead a division or a company influence its personality,” said Delagrave, when asked if he expected Rumble to alter the culture of Cossette Media’s 60-person Toronto office. “It’s better to accept this and make it a strength.”

Cossette Media’s clients include Telus, BMO, Air Transat and the federal government.
