Toronto area branding and design agency Davis has announced the opening of its sister agency Bridgemark.

The new agency, which operates separately from Davis despite sharing the same corporate owner, Glenn A. Davis & Associates Ltd., actually launched last November, though a public announcement was delayed until Bridgemark moved from its temporary quarters in the Davis office space to new headquarters. That move is expected to be complete in April.

Approximately one quarter of Davis’ 100-plus staff have moved to Bridgemark, as have 10 major clients including Johnson & Johnson, Bayer and Vincor.

Bridgemark president Ron Davis says the move was made in part to maintain existing client relationships while avoiding conflicts of interest.

“We’ve got clients that, through mergers and acquisitions and expansion into new categories move themselves into positions where there are conflicts,” says Davis. “This won’t solve all of those problems but it allows us to offer a solution to our clients when these conflicts occur.”

Another motive for the move, says Davis, was to recharging the internal agency environment.

“You get to a certain size where bigger isn’t better,” he says. “It had got to the point where someone could be hired and three months later, not everyone knows their name. That’s not the creative culture we wanted to have.”

Davis says clients that have been shifted to Bridgemark can expect the same level of service. “Everything you could get at Davis you can get at Bridgemark. They’re essentially clones of each other.”
