The annual “Best Workplaces in Canada” list for 2011 is out and companies from the advertising, marketing, media and public relations industries secured several of its 100 coveted spots.

The companies that made the list from the marketing, advertising, media and PR industries include:

Google Canada, ranked 1st
Mosaic Sales Solutions, ranked 10th
Ariad Custom Communications, ranked 16th
Disney Online Studios Canada, ranked 19th
Hill & Knowlton Canada, ranked 40th
Sapient Canada, ranked 41st
The Marketing Store, ranked 48th
CIM, ranked 75th
Carswell, ranked 77th

Compiled by Great Place to Work Institute Canada, a group that helps companies in all sectors improve their workplace relationships, the list was published in The Globe and Mail on Tuesday as a special national report.

To make the list, these workplaces score high when it comes to credibility, respect, fairness, pride and camaraderie.

There are two main tools used to choose the companies that make the list: the Trust Index employee survey tool that measures employees’ views on their workplace (these responses pull the most weight in a company’s score); and the Culture Audit, a management questionnaire used to gauge the overall culture of the organization.

Of the 100 workplaces that made the list, 84 have between 50 and 999 employees and 16 have more than 1000 employees.

There were more than 230 nominations for this year’s survey and roughly 44,000 employees participated.
