We’re all aware of resume padding as a practice, but how prevalent is its opposite – understating experience to avoid looking overqualified for a job?

Craig Lund of Marketing Talent Inc. – a Toronto-based placement agency serving the marketing industry – was interviewed on CBC Radio One’s Metro Morning on May 15 on this topic, which he says is of growing concern.

“It seems to be happening a lot more than it used to. In the last 6 or 7 months we started seeing it even more so, especially with folks at the senior level… You’ve got a whole bunch of senior-level, VP-level marketers from major organizations, tons of experience, floating in the marketplace looking for work. And they have been doing so for the last three years, getting by on contracts. What they’ve been doing is trying to figure you how to get into an opportunity by toning down their resume.”

What are senior marketers editing out of their otherwise robust CVs? Here’s the full interview.
