A new way to reach out and touch someone
Durex Australia has created his and hers iPhone-enabled underwear as part of its latest Facebook campaign. Dubbed “funderwear,” the garments are connected to an iPhone app that can be controlled remotely so couples can virtually “touch” each other.
The condom-maker calls it “the future of foreplay.” Though the brand currently has no intent of selling funderwear (it calls the marketing stunt a “Durexperiment”) it’s giving away one pair on the Durex Australia Facebook page.
In a video promoting the contest, a couple appears in a mock video call to show off the app’s functionality. By tapping their smartphone screens, they send vibrations into each other’s underwear, prompting giggles and, as the video fades to a prompt to the Facebook app Durex built for funderwear, moaning.
The brand also released two other videos on it’s YouTube page, including one that explains how funderwear was prototyped and the technology used by the project’s tech director, Ben Moir, to create the final product.
In the second video the fashion designer behind the wearable technology, Billie Whitehouse, talks about the process of incorporating tech into the underwear and still making them comfortable enough for virtual sex.
