Edelman Canada announced big promotions at the top.
John Clinton, CEO of Edelman Canada, was promoted to chair and CEO, Canada and also takes on the newly created role of North American head of creative and content.
Clinton joined Edelman in 2011 from Transcontinental Media, where he was senior VP of digital solutions, and is the former president and CEO of Grey Canada. “It was a great opportunity for me and it fits with my background, having worked in advertising, digital publishing and public relations,” said Clinton.
In his new role as head of creative and content, Clinton will set strategy and establish a “best-in-class offering” building on Edelman’s 200-person creative and content team across North America.
“We’ve always been a highly creative agency, but we’re bringing in more and more specific creative talent,” he said. “The notion is that we don’t want to create the same [creative department] in each office. We want to have expertise in different offices that we can pull in when we need them.”
In his capacity as chair and CEO, Clinton will continue to be involved with key clients and will set the long-term vision for Edelman Canada, which has offices in Toronto, Montreal, Vancouver and Calgary.
Lisa Kimmel, formerly general manager of Edelman Toronto, was promoted to president of Edelman Canada. Since becoming GM in 2009, the Toronto office’s revenue has grown 65% and profit has more than doubled. “[The promotion] is a great recognition for Lisa who has done an incredible job running the Toronto office,” said Clinton.
Scott Evans takes over from Kimmel as general manager of Edelman Toronto. Evans, who joined Edelman in 2006, was formerly co-deputy general manager of Edelman Toronto and national sector leader, health.
Additionally, Jordan Doucette, who was hired as Edelman Toronto’s executive creative director in March 2014, was promoted to national executive creative director. “Jordan has been able to do some amazing work for us, so it makes perfect sense for her to become the ECD for Canada and work with all four offices in creating the communications marketing company that we want to be,” said Clinton.
Tristan Roy, managing director of digital, was promoted to managing director of digital and national specialties. In addition to providing oversight to the firm’s digital, paid media, and measurements and insights specialties, Roy will play a leading role in operationalizing other specialty areas such as planning and creative across all four Canadian offices.
