Energi PR announces new GM, new roles for co-founders

There are changes at the top ranks of Energi PR as the agency's co-founders plan for the future, and a VP becomes partner and GM.

Approaching its 25th anniversary, Energi PR has made organizational changes as it looks to the future.

Marlo Taylor

Montreal-based co-founders and owners Carol Levine and Esther Buchsbaum assume the positions of CEO and president, respectively. Marlo Taylor, formerly Energi PR’s VP and healthcare practice lead, was named partner and general manager.

“As much as Esther and I are well-known and I think respected in the industry, our success, the branding and business reputation are very much linked to us,” said Levine. “We’re getting older and the reality is we needed to plan for the future.”

Levine said she and Buchsbaum currently have no plans to retire—it’s about looking at the sustainability of the business five to 10 years down the road.

In their new roles, Levine and Buchsbaum will focus on high-level service excellence, professional development, new service offerings and category knowledge.

Meanwhile, Taylor will oversee Energi’s expanding Toronto office, spearhead the growth of the agency’s work in consumer health, advocacy and stakeholder relations, and continue to work with clients.

“One of the key considerations was Marlo’s interest in continuing to serve her clients,” said Levine. “I think that’s one of the big mistakes that a lot of PR agency leaders make—they take their great second-in-command out of what they do best, which is serving clients.”

Taylor will also lead the “next generation” at Energi PR, said Levine. “Her management style is firm, but fair… She is definitely someone that people want to follow.”
