Hill & Knowlton Canada has hired veteran broadcast journalist Peter Kent as vice-president and Jane Shapiro as deputy practice leader of the corporate communications practice, while Collin Douma also joins as senior counselor of the company’s digital media team.

Kent will focus on strategic client planning, leadership training as well as senior media relations support. Kent has worked with CTV, Global, CBC as well as NBC and was a founding producer, reporter and anchor for The Journal.

Shapiro will focus on crisis and business-to-business communications. Shapiro is the former senior vice-president and senior partner at Fleishman-Hillard Inc. and has worked as deputy secretary of the Premier’s Council in the Ontario Ministry of Industry, Trade and Technology. She has also worked with Gulf Canada and Glaxo Canada Inc.

“Peter and Jane bring the experience and knowledge that our clients are demanding from their public relations agency which includes a deep understanding of both the communications and media landscapes,” said Michael Coates, president and CEO, Hill & Knowlton Canada, in a release.

Douma will develop online strategies for clients like Overlay TV, Molson, Ontario Power Generation, Hewlett-Packard Canada and Motorola.

Douma worked as group creative director at MacLaren McCann where he led teams on the Coca-Cola and General Motors Canada accounts and also directed online programs for Rogers, Roche International and TD Canada Trust.
