British footwear company Hunter has hired Toronto’s Jane Gill & Associates (JG&A) to manage its public relations in Canada.

“This is an important market for them and they were looking to have a greater presence in Canada,” said Jane Gill, founder and president at JG&A.

Established in 1856 as the North British Rubber Company, Hunter is behind the iconic Original Wellington boot. It also sells a range of other footwear, as well as outerwear and bags. The Edinburgh-based company recently launched a new Canadian e-commerce site.

JG&A will oversee and manage all Canadian PR activities for Hunter, including media relations and events. “We will probably focus on launching their seasonal collections and communicating the brand story,” said Gill. “They are a very innovative company and they have a very rich history, so there’s a great story to tell.”

Gill said her agency, which gets a lot of business through word of mouth, was recommended to Hunter. “This type of brand sits very well with our other clients,” she said. “We work with very authentic brands, so I think it was just a good fit.”

JG&A recently was hired to handle PR for Icebreaker, a New Zealand-based outdoor clothing company. Its client roster also includes Pottery Barn, West Elm, J. Crew and Williams-Sonoma.
