Jessica Schnurr joins 180LA

The 30 Under 30 alumna moves to the U.S. next to another Canadian expat

John St.’s Jessica Schnurr has been scooped up by an agency south of the border.

Schnurr, who was named one of Marketing’s 30 Under 30 in 2015, recently joined 180LA in Santa Monica, California.

The copywriter had been with John St. for just under two years, working on clients such as Tangerine and Loblaw.

Prior to John St. she worked at DDB Canada, where she wrote the memorable Netflix spot “Pep Talk” – an ad that scored her a Cannes Lion. Last year Schnurr also served on the Cannes radio jury.

“Jessica’s racked up an impressive number of accolades. From winning a Cannes Film Craft Lion with Netflix to her own inspired campaign #CoverTheAthlete, Jessica impressed us with incredible talent, passion and energy,” said William Gelner, chief creative officer at 180LA. “Since she’s joined us, the hallways here have some serious Canadian swagger.”

Schnurr is one of two recent Canadian expats to join 180LA. Kasi Bruno (pictured right) joined the agency late last month as executive strategy director. Bruno had previously been senior vice-president and strategic planning director at Y&R Toronto.

In her new role, Bruno is leading agency’s planning department. In a release, Bruno said, “the talent at 180, both on the planning team and at the agency as a whole, is impressive.”

“There’s hunger, creativity and an appetite to push the boundaries of what’s expected. I’m excited to build on that fresh and unexpected approach and bring it to life for our clients and their brands.”
