The Western Canada Lottery Corporation and its agency Venture Communications took home the Best-in-Show platinum award and $10,000 grand prize at The Radio Marketing Bureau‘s 2010 Crystal Awards gala at Toronto’s Fairmont Royal York Hotel yesterday afternoon.
The winning spot, “Crossword Scratch ‘n Win–Lip Paint,” produced by 6 Degrees, also garnered the Gold Award in Performance and additional Craft Awards.
A total of 31 Crystal trophies in 10 categories were awarded for outstanding Canadian radio creative.
Gold Crystal winners included:
•Brick Brewing and GJP Advertising & Design in Agency Campaign;
•British Columbia Lottery Corporation and DDB Canada, Vancouver in Agency Single;
•Vancouver Alpen Club and Jim Pattison Broadcast Group, Vancouver in Station Campaign;
•Durham Rape Crisis Centre, CHUM Radio/CTVglobemedia, Toronto in Station Single;
•ABC Canada Literacy Foundation and Zig, in Public Service Announcement;
•BMW Canada and Cundari, Toronto in Creative Use of Sound/Music;
•Dream Easy Kitchens, Vista Radio, Kelowna in Best Entry from a Small Market;
•107.5 Dave FM, Corus Radio, Kitchener in Station Promotion Single;
•Curve 94.3, CHUM Radio/CTVglobemedia, Winnipeg in Station Promotion Campaign.
The awards gala, taking place in conjunction with Canadian Music Week, was preceded in the morning by RMB’s Creative Summit, featuring presentations by radio ad vet Jeffrey Hedquist and D.J. Williams, author of soundBait: Creative Weapons of MASS Distraction.
After all the trophies were handed out, musical guests Karl Wolf and Jamie Cullum took to the stage.
