MacLaren McCann wins PowerStream account

Work for New Brunswick Power helps Toronto agency land new client

To help it reach its energy conservation targets set by the Ontario government, PowerStream has tasked MacLaren McCann with motivating consumers to use less electricity.

Last year, PowerStream became the province’s first energy distribution company to sign onto the Ministry of Energy’s “Conversation First” framework, which calls for distribution companies to meet a 5% reduction in current provincial electricity consumption levels by 2020.

Raegan Bond, VP, conservation and demand management for PowerStream, says the company hired MacLaren McCann because of its proven understanding of the Canadian energy sector.

“In order to stay at the forefront of the energy sector we need a partner that understands our vision in this complicated market. With their deep experience in the energy sector, MacLaren McCann was a natural choice and will help us innovate in the face of change,” said Bond in a release.

MacLaren’s recent creative work for New Brunswick Power was cited as a significant reason for the win. The Toronto-based agency created the utility’s Reduce and Shift Demand Program, which included an integrated campaign encouraging residents to change their electricity consumption patterns.

David Leonard, CEO of MacLaren McCann, added, “This is an exciting win for us and builds out our energy expertise even further. We are delighted to be their partner to innovate and help drive critical changes in the energy sector.”

PowerStream, which services more than 375,000 customers north of Toronto and in central Ontario, is jointly owned by the cities of Barrie, Markham and Vaughan.
