Marketing has released the shortlist for its “Agency of the Year” honour.

Every year, the magazine’s editorial staff selects a list of agencies they feel had the most impressive performance over the previous 12 months.

Innovation, business success and strong creative work are all considered when evaluating agency performance, and in 2010, 13 agencies made the list.

“This year we made a concerted effort to stretch and even recalibrate our definitions of innovation and leadership,” wrote David Brown, managing editor, in his introduction to the list. “It has become axiomatic to say the industry is going through unprecedented change and because of that marketers are increasingly relying on media, PR, digital, experiential, and promotional experts to solve their marcom challenges.”

When reviewing the field, Brown said, it also became clear that many agencies are expanding their expertise beyond “advertising.” Content creation, for example, became a large part of agency work in 2010.

This year’s “Agency of the Year” finalists, in alphabetical order, are:

• Capital C

• High Road

• Juniper Park

• Leo Burnett

• LG2

• Media Experts

• Mosaic

• PHD

• Proximity

• Sid Lee

• Starcom Mediavest Group

• TBWAVancouver

• Twist Image

Each agency is profiled in the Nov. 22 issue of Marketing, on newsstands now.
