Toronto agency The Hive has hired Neil McPhedran to lead its digital and consumer engagement teams.

The firm announced last week that McPhedran, a digital marketing veteran with both agency and entrepreneurial experience, has been named to the newly-created position of vice-president, digital/consumer engagement.

McPhedran returns to agency work after four years with Greenshag.com, an online men’s clothing company he co-founded with his wife Victoria. He also served as a principal for Digital Wallet Ventures.

Previously, McPhedran had spent six years as managing director at Tribal DDB.

“He’s going to add tremendous value to the existing group,” said Andy Krupski, president and CEO at The Hive. “As more and more of our business gets more and more complicated across more and more digital channels, we need more intellectual leadership.

“The real issue is to start to think through the implications of Facebook, Facebook Timeline, Google and all the emerging social media as well as all the new technologies out there and how they can impact on defining, creating and building brand narratives.”

McPhedran started at the agency this morning.
