The deadline for the 2013 Marketing Awards is coming up fast. And once all your hard work putting together the submissions is done, it’ll be time for the judging.
This year’s chairs, Joseph Bonnici and Dean Lee, have put together a group of top-notch creative minds who will gather in Toronto in mid-April to review all the work, debate, discuss, dissect and eventually vote on the winners. Since this group will be judging you and your work, Marketing thought you may want to know at least a little about some of them.

First job in the business
I interned at Roche Macaulay & Partners (when it was still called Roche Macaulay & Partners) and then got hired full-time after a lot of grovelling.
Proudest moment or achievement in the business
Starting an agency.
Most important mentor or inspiration
I’ve been lucky enough to have worked with quite a few amazing people, but the wise and brilliant Mike O’Reilly was a true inspiration to me. He had such a profound affect on both my work ethic and general view of life.
What is the trend in marketing/advertising that most excites you and why?
Thanks to the rapid growth of technology and the need to break through the clutter more than ever, there’s been a shift to do more innovative, non-traditional ideas. I love that anything seems possible now.
What is the trend in marketing/advertising you wish would stop right now and why?
I’m getting a little tired of the term “blogger outreach.”

First job in the business
The original street team. I grew up in the era when jingles and tag lines ruled. When I was about 5, we got a sample of Close-Up toothpaste in the mail. So I brushed my teeth with it then jumped on my bike and rode around the neighbourhood telling everyone “I’ve got sex appeal!”
Proudest moment or achievement in the business
Getting Paul Lavoie to hire me right out of school and winning a Marketing Gold with the Self Promo piece that peeked his curiosity.
What is the trend in marketing/advertising that most excites you and why?
The return to the idea versus the execution.
What is the trend in marketing/advertising you wish would stop right now and why?
This brief: client had an idea for a “viral ad,” you know like the Evian babies. They want “wow.” They have $30K.
