It’s a stark statement, but banning advertising that targets kids was deemed the best option of the three we offered in our latest informal reader poll.
We asked visitors to our website, readers of our Daily e-newsletter and those who follow @Marketing_Mag on Twitter “Have government and industry groups struck the right balance in marketing to kids?” The majority thought it better to avoid the situation altogether.
• “No. The best kids advertising is no kids advertising. Just listen to Alex Bogusky and ban it all” – 46.1%
• “Way overboard. You can’t even show a kids’ burger in an ad without your client asking if it’s too controversial” – 27.3%
• Yes. Kids are able to deal with the sensitive marketing around them” – 26.7%
