Lauren Crampsie, 31, has been named Ogilvy & Mather‘s global chief marketing officer.
Crampsie replaces Eleanor Mascheroni, who recently left the WPP-owned agency after a decade.
After a stint in broadcast TV, Crampsie began her ad career at Ogilvy’s New York office in 2004, taking a post in the new-business department in 2004. She rose through the ranks quickly. She was promoted to new-business director in 2008 – the youngest person ever in that position – and promoted again in 2010 to North American CMO. In that post she helped to bring in accounts such as Gap, Ikea and Tabasco.
In her new role, Crampsie will be responsible for the network’s communication initiatives across 450 global offices worldwide. That will be in addition to her current responsibilities leading business development for Ogilvy in North America.
“The reason I chose Lauren was because of her zest for the business,” Ogilvy Global CEO Miles Young, who’s currently in Hong Kong, said in an email to Ad Age. “She just loves it, and to me that’s the single most important thing for anyone who has to communicate on behalf of an agency. So you were right; she was someone to watch.”
Crampsie was among a list of female executives in marketing, media and advertising named to Ad Age‘s annual “Women to Watch” list in 2011. As part of that feature, Crampsie said that in her ad career, Ogilvy chairman Shelly Lazarus has been her biggest source of inspiration. The admiration is mutual. When Crampsie was named North American CMO, Lazarus wrote her a letter saying, “You’re the perfect person to keep Ogilvy famous.”
