OMD Canada wins PetSmart Canada media business

OMD came out top dog, winning the business after making its final presentation last week.

OMD Canada has won media planning and buying duties for PetSmart Canada after a review that began in early April.

The new business win will see the Omnicom-owned agency handle all of pet retailer’s media account with the exception of search (which is handled by U.S.-based iCrossing).

Marketing has learned the other agencies involved in the Canadian media pitch included UM and Mindshare. Starcom had previously handled the account.

OMD Canada CEO Cathy Collier told Marketing that her agency made its final presentation May 16, and found out it had won the account on May 20.

“It’s a really great brand in a high-involvement category… It is going to be a high-growth brand in Canada,” Collier said.

Collier said OMD has already started working on the account, and will begin executing in September.

South of the border, OMD Chicago won media planning and buying duties for PetSmart in the U.S. in April. U.S.-based Boom Ideanet has worked on the company’s creative since 2011.

PetSmart Inc. has more than 1,300 stores in Canada, the U.S. and Puerto Rico.
