A recap of who’s headed where in Canadian marketing and communications.

DAVE TUPPER moved to Shanghai to become creative director of AQKA on the Nike Asia account. Tupper was most recently associate creative director at Young & Rubicam in Toronto, having previously worked as an art director at Leo Burnett and GJP Advertising.

TBWA\Toronto appointed GEORGE NGUYEN to the position of managing director. Nguyen was most recently with the agency’s Vietnam office where he helped grow the agency from 16 to 90 staff members in just over four years. Prior to this he was in Boston at Arnold and New York at both Lowe NY and Strawberry Frog, as a strategic planner. In these roles he worked with clients including General Motors, Volkswagen, XM Satellite Radio as well as a number of Unilever and Frito-Lay brands.

CHRIS KELLY joined The Yankee Candle Company as general manager, Canada. The company currently operates six retail stores in the Greater Toronto Area and also sells products at select independent gift and specialty stores. The company plans to expand its presence nationally to 50 stores within the next five years. Prior to joining Yankee Candle, Kelly was part of the executive team at Hallmark Canada, where he most recently served as the vice-president of consumer solutions & brand experience.

Whitehorse-based agency Outside the Cube added three new members to its team. DAN MCDONALD and KRISTIN CHARRON joined as account manager and account coordinator, respectively, while JASMINE FORGET joined the agency’s creative team as a graphic designer.

Hill+Knowlton Strategies Canada named GEOFF OWEN vice-president and group leader of its Toronto public affairs team. Owen spent the last two years as a senior consultant with StrategyCorp. Prior to that he was director, public affairs at RBC. He takes over his new role Aug. 1.

6S Marketing in Vancouver promoted LYN WILSON from lead digital strategist to partner. Lyn started with the agency in 2005 as an account manager. Currently she is focused on business development in Canada and abroad.

National Public Relations appointed HILLARY MARSHALL to vice-president of its financial communications practice in Toronto. Marshall has over 17 years of senior-level communication experience having held roles within the TMX Group, Hudson’s Bay Company, and Direct Energy, where she led a large team working across North America and was responsible for the communications for a series of acquisitions made by the company.

MICHAEL CORBIERE joined Atomic Clock as producer. During his career he has held producer/director/editor positions with the Toronto Blue Jays, Braincloud Films, Astral, Canwest, CBC, iTravel2000.com and Bell.

News Canada added three new members to its creative and communications team. STEPHEN STANLEY joined as a creative director, CHARLOTTE LO joined as a marketing manager, while LIZ WATKINS joined as marketing sales, and administrative co-ordinator. The team will focus on content solutions around social media, branding, and image.

Amid broad changes to the executive team at Maple Leaf Sports & Entertainment, DAVID HOPKINSON has been promoted to chief commercial officer after 18 years at the company. Hopkinson’s marketing team will include new vice-presidents SHANNON HOSFORD, marketing and communications, and JEFF DELINE, global partnerships.
