A recap of who’s headed where in Canadian marketing and communications.

Corus Entertainment named MARIA HALE as its vice-president television, head of programming and production, effective April 4. Hale will oversee content production, acquisitions and distribution strategies across the company’s specialty and pay channels. Hale was most recently vice-president of content at Telus, and prior to that held various senior management roles at CHUM.

The Mental Health Commission of Canada hired JEFF MOAT to spearhead its Partners for Mental Health program. Moat spent the last seven years as national director of marketing for the Canadian Blood Services. In his new role, he will build a grassroots campaign with the goal of raising public awareness about mental health.

NATALIE GODFREY joined DDB Canada’s Vancouver office as senior planning director. In her new role, Godfrey will develop communication strategies for clients like the Canadian Tourism Commission (CTC). Godfrey was most recently at Mediacom London where she led a nine-person planning team on Glaxo Smithkline’s soft drink and oral care business.

Public relations agency GCI Group promoted one and added four new members to its team. CAROLYN SCHULZ, who joined the agency in March 2009 as an account coordinator was promoted to consultant. MARC ESPOSITO, PARKER HUGHES and COLLIN MATANOWITSCH joins as consultants, while ALEX SZABADOS joins as a digital strategist.

Hill & Knowlton Canada appointed SARAH WEDDELL as vice president and group leader of leader of British Columbia Public Affairs. Weddell has worked for the Government of British Columbia as a caucus communications consultant, and in Ottawa for both the Minister of National Health and Welfare and the Minister of Indian Affairs and Northern Development.

SEAN MCDONALD and BLAINE VAN BRUGGEN joined Taxi as director, digital strategy and digital account director, respectively. McDonald was previously director of social strategy and innovation at Veritas, while van Bruggen was most recently account director at Ogilvy & Mather.

CHIARA REID joined KB Media as a senior account executive. Reid was most recently an account manager at Astral Out-of-Home, and prior to that worked at Onsite Media Network as a senior account manager.
