LORRAINE HUGHES, president of OMD Canada, is retiring in July after 35 years in the industry, the last nine of which she spent at the helm of the Omnicom-owned media shop. The agency is in the process of looking for her replacement.

Digital creative agency Kolody Inc. hired CHAD BORLASE as creative director at its Toronto office. Borlase, a native of South Africa, was most recently a co-creative director at BOS, where he spent over six years working on brands such as Fido, HomeSense, SmartSet and Honda.

Google Canada hired MARSHALL SELF as head of display, to oversee advertising sales across the Google Display Network and YouTube, and JEREMY BUTTERISS as director, strategic partnerships. Self was previously director of sales at AOL Canada, while Butteriss led the broadband entertainment division at Rogers Communications.

GCI Group hired LISA CANCIAN as a health care consultant and NAVI LAMBA as account coordinator, specializing in social media. Cancian brings almost four years of health-care communications experience from iQ Inc, where she developed a specialty in internal and external health communications with a focus on vaccines.

Adbloc Media added three new members to its team. SHANE FORAN joins the Toronto-based out-of-home media company as director, national accounts, while ALEX BERUBE assumes the role of manager, brand development. ANDY QUERIN, the former president and COO of Zoom Media, will act as a strategic advisor to help grow the agency.

Apex Public Relations has promoted LAUREN BASWICK and BROCK PENNER to account manager and senior consultant, respectively. Baswick, will continue to lend senior-level counsel to the consumer practice, while Penner focuses on the technology, consumer and corporate practices.

PAUL MILES joins Level 5 as a brand strategist. Over the years Miles has held senior positions at companies such as The Coca-Cola Company in Portugal, and Empresa de Cervejas da Madeira, where he was responsible for three brewing companies in Portugal and Africa. The hiring follows the addition of GRAHAM ROBERTSON as brand strategist in February. Robertson is the former head of Canadian marketing at Johnson and Johnson and Pfizer.
