A recap of who’s headed where in Canadian marketing and communications.

Toronto public relations agency Veritas Communications hired industry veteran MARTIN HOFMANN to fill the newly created role of senior vice-president of social and digital communications. Hofmann has experience working in the communications industry for government-run organizations and agencies, both in Canada and abroad. His previous work experience includes stints at Fleishman-Hillard in Toronto, High Road Communications and most recently the Ontario Ministry of Environment.

After a month of working as a freelance strategist for TBWA\Toronto, NEALE HALLIDAY joined the agency as its new chief strategy officer, replacing Christine Maw who left the agency late last year to become a freelancer herself. Halliday was with BBDO Toronto for six years before moving to the agency’s Detroit office. In 2005 he started freelancing.

ANDREW JOHNSON and BARBARA SHEARER joined Shaw Media’s content team as production executives. Both Johnson and Shearer oversee a range of original factual programming on Global Television, History Television and TVtropolis.

DAVE SYLVESTRE joined McDonnell Haynes Advertising and Design in Toronto as creative director, interactive. Sylvestre was most recently the creative director at interactive agency Organic, which closed its doors last spring.

ALAN CROSS, the “Godfather of Alternative Music,” is the new voice of AUX, voicing promotional spots for the station.  Cross also recently signed a deal with Astral-owned Orbyt Media, to write and host The Secret History Of Rock with Alan Cross, a two-hour weekly program devoted to the classic hits of the 70s, 80s and 90s.
