New hires at SapientNitro

SapientNitro welcomed 10 new faces to its Toronto office, including new creative director MICHAEL MURRAY. Murray comes from Blammo, where he was partner and chief creative officer for two years. Before that, he was at Crispin Porter + Bogusky for four years, rising to the position of VP ECD. SapientNitro also hired KATIE PULA as associate CD, experience design, from The Marketing Store; ADAM ROMANO, senior designer, from Jam3; MIN KANG from Critical Mass and MIRZA SAKOVIC from Cossette as senior art directors; DAN CUMMINGS, copywriter from Cossette; MICHAEL SIEGARS, art director from Cossette; GRACE MCCANN, director of interactive project management from Proximity; KATHERINE IANNUZZI, account director from JAY; and ANGELA ROSALES, account supervisor from Blammo.

AOL Canada created new roles for MICHELLE BAILEY and MIKE EVANS, who now manage and train the company’s sales team as sales directors. Bailey has experience in integrated digital sales, having previously worked at Microsoft, Canwest and Lavalife, while Evans has been an account executive at Shaw, Bell and SBC Media. The media company said the change is designed to free up Bailey and Evans’ expertise in the digital and programmatic space so they can focus on education and broader solutions for clients. AOL plans to hire two new account executives to fill the directors’ former duties on the sales team. Bailey and Evans will continue to report to AOL Canada head of advertising revenue Susan Byng.

Fuse hired MARC PELLAND as creative technologist, where he will work on designing interactive digital experiences. Pelland comes from Cult, where he worked in a similar role for the past five years, and before that from global digital experience design firm Infusion. Fuse also promoted BRIE TAYLOR to director of client services, who was previously an account director working with major Fuse clients such as Canadian Tire and Tim Hortons. In her new role, Taylor will lead the strategic planning process and oversee several cross-functional teams within the agency.

Microsoft expanded its Canadian sales team with two new ad solutions specialists, MARIE PETTLE and SARAH COTTON. Cotton has 15 years in media sales, having worked as an account director at Bell Media, TC Media and most recently Rogers Media. Pettle, meanwhile, comes from Olive Media, the digital ad sales and programmatic trading subsidiary of Torstar, where she led the sales solutions team. Before that she worked on the agency side at Mindshare and CU Advertising.

Public hired a new director of strategy, STEPHEN STECK, where he will work on mining human insights and creating innovative ways for brands to distinguish themselves in the marketplace. Steck comes most recently from Publicis, where he was a senior creative strategist. He has also been a strategic planner for Taxi. Prior to joining the industry, he was a professor of criminology at University of Montreal, specializing in prison writing and convict memoirs. Public also hired a new art director, KAEL KARLO, a recent graduate of Humber’s creative advertising program and a recipient of FCB Toronto’s Art Direction Scholarship award.

YEN CONROD TRAN joined The Globe and Mail as manager of trade marketing. Tran has a range of experience in sales, sponsorship, branding, PR, event management and loyalty marketing, gained over four years at St. Joseph Media, where she was marketing manager for Toronto Life and Where Canada, and before that at Media Experts, where she was an account planner for three years.

Hill + Knowlton promoted two and added three across its Canadian offices. In Toronto, CORTNEY ANDERSON was promoted to senior account director after four years with the firm’s technology communications practice, and JAIME SHULMAN was hired as an account director with the firm’s national corporate development group. Shulman was most recently director of client services for Periscope, and before that a brand communications manager at InterContinental Hotels. In Calgary, H+K promoted TABETHA BOOT to group leader for corporate, crisis, marketing communications and issue management teams after two and a half years at the agency. In Ottawa, the firm hired MIKE MURPHY as a senior associate in the public communications practice, and in Regina, TESSA RITTER as senior consultant for public, private and non-profit sector clients.
