GMR Marketing brought on ANIA SPONASKI as client services director at its Vancouver office and LAURA BOSHELL as client services director at its Toronto offices. Sponaski, previously with GMR’s London office, will oversee the firm’s Canadian sponsorship practice, including sponsorships around the Olympics. Boshell comes to GMR from Blue Ant Media, and has held various content and event production roles throughout the years, including at Cannes and the London Olympics. At GMR, she will lead the staffing department and handle the SAB Miller account. Also at the Toronto office, LORNE COOPERBERG was promoted from client services director to group account director, where he’ll oversee a portfolio of clients including RBC, Visa, Ferrari and Hershey. AYISHA IZMETH, who has been with the agency for four years working with luxury products in the hospitality practice, was also promoted from client services supervisor to client services director.
Weber Shandwick hired SANDRA D’AMBROSIO as SVP of its consumer practice. She brings consumer marketing expertise, specifically in food and retail, as well as government experience, from her previous role at Edelman. ALEXANDRA UNGUREANU also joined as VP of client services from Sonic Boom Creative Media. She will lead the national client services team and act as a senior member of the content and platforms team. KYLE BROWN re-joined the agency after a stint on a cross-functional analytics and measurement team at Rogers. At Weber Shandwick, he’ll be an account director and lead analytics and insights across practices. NATALIE PAVLENKO was hired as account director on the health practice, coming from the Ontario Association of Radiologists. She has experience working with national and provincial health organizations as well as health PR agencies.
The Globe and Mail expanded its custom content group with the addition of KATHERINE SCARROW, who led the Report on Small Business for the past two years, and helped build up the Globe‘s social following on Twitter, LinkedIn and Instagram. Scarrow takes on the newly created role of digital strategist. She will work with the Globe Edge and custom content team to plan and execute user experiences across digital platforms.
CBC hired KAREN ECKERT as director of multiplatform media solutions at the Toronto division of the CBC & Radio-Canada Media Solutions Group. Eckert will be tasked with leading the CBC team to achieve sales goals across its various media properties. Her background in media sales stretches back 20 years at the national and local level, having worked most recently at Bell Media, where she was director of Toronto retail sales.
BOB NICHOLSON was appointed CEO of the Oilers Entertainment Group, and will have authority over all aspects of business and operations for the Edmonton Oilers Hockey Club. Nicholson joined the organization last year as vice-chair. He is also alternative governor for the Edmonton Oilers on the NHL Board of Governors, a role he’ll continue to serve. Nicholson was formerly president and CEO of Hockey Canada, before retiring in 2014.
Interactive video personalization platform, Percy3D, hired JOSHUA LEVY as VP sales and marketing for its PercyVites line of digital children’s party products. Levy comes most recently from Wattpad, where he was a partnerships and sales advisor. At PercyVites, he’ll be working to develop new partnership opportunities with popular children’s brands, and new product offerings for the platform.
National PR appointed STEPHANIE MCGRATH as director of content strategy, where she’ll work to expand the agency’s digital team and assist clients with storytelling across a variety of media. McGrath comes to National from T4G, where she was content and social media storytelling lead. She is credited with having helped establish T4G’s digital marketing arm, T4G KICK. She has also worked in media at CityTV, AOL and MSN.
