OpenTable selects first Canadian AOR

Toronto-based StrategicAmpersand tasked with building brand's social presence

The online restaurant reservation service OpenTable has named Toronto-based StrategicAmpersand as its agency of record for Canada.

Though OpenTable has been serving Canadian restaurants and diners for more than a decade, StrategicAmpersand is its first AOR in the country. “The partnership marks the beginning of our PR and social efforts in the market,” says Tiffany Fox, senior director of corporate communications at San Francisco-based OpenTable.

Fox says OpenTable was looking for “a strong agency partner who understood our business holistically and had strong business-to-business, consumer, technology and social expertise.  When we embarked on our RFP process, StrategicAmpersand was already on our shortlist, and their strategic thinking and approach to planning and execution made our final decision easy.”

The 23-person shop has been tasked with helping to build OpenTable’s public relations program and social media presence in Canada to build awareness, loyalty and engagement with the brand.

StrategicAmpersand president Gayle Robin says her firm has launched a Twitter account for OpenTable in Canada and has announced the inaugural OpenTable Canada Top 100 Best Restaurants list.

DKC Public Relations is OpenTable’s AOR in the U.S.
