John Ounpuu is the new vice-president strategy for Blast Radius and will oversee the Western North American region.

Ounpuu is a 10-year veteran of the Vancouver-based shop and has worked with a number of clients over the years including Starbucks, Microsoft and Nike.

His appointment is the latest in a number of changes to the Vancouver-based shop.

“It’s an interesting time for the agency and the change [in my position] is coinciding with some larger changes and gives me the opportunity to play a role in the evolution of the company,” said Ounpuu.

Gurval Caer, founder and CEO, was named vice-chairman, chief innovation and marketing officer in April for the WPP-owned Wunderman, the agency network that acquired Blast Radius in 2007.

In June, Gautam Lohia was promoted from executive VP of emerging technologies to chief technology officer, responsible for global technology strategy and operations. Robin Forbes is now the managing director for North America, and Sam Landers, former president and CEO at Chicago-based Designkitchen is now president of the global brand experience division at Wunderman.

Ounpuu said that Wunderman was restructured four months ago into four divisions, one of which is the global brand experience division that is consolidating a group of recent mergers – including Designkitchen, Paris-based Kassius and These Days of Antwerp – under the Blast umbrella.

Blast Radius continues to grow its business, he said. Recent client acquisitions include Sasktel, digital work for the Government of Saskatchewan and the BC Automobile Association, and New Era Caps, an American headwear manufacturer.
