Philip Donne, president of Campbell Company of Canada, has been named the recipient of the ACA Gold Medal for 2013, which will be presented on May 30 during the 91st Marketing Awards ceremony.

First presented in 1941, the Association of Canadian Advertisers presents the award to an individual who has made an outstanding contribution to the advancement of marketing communications in Canada.

“I’m honoured to be recognized by the ACA with the Gold Medal Award,” said Donne, in a release. “As marketers, we have tremendous opportunity to bring vibrant, meaningful solutions to Canadians in a way that is both exciting and socially responsible.”

Donne has brought this way of thinking to life during his 11-year tenure at Campbell’s. He has helped put into place health and wellness and corporate social responsibility initiatives that benefit the company and the community.

In 2011 the company launched Nourish, a nutritionally dense meal-in-a-can created in partnership with Food Banks Canada to help fight hunger. Campbell’s also made huge strides in its mission to reduce sodium, setting a strong example that other packaged goods companies followed.

“[Donne] is an ardent believer that corporations and their employees – from the plant floor to the executive suite – must strive to do the right thing because it’s the right thing to do,” said Ron Lund, president and CEO of the ACA.

“With Phil’s guidance, Campbell Canada has set the pace as a company whose core values include a commitment to provide Canadians with healthy, affordable and delicious food choices, from its iconic Campbell’s soups to its Pepperidge Farm baked snacks and V8 beverages,” he added.

During his career Donne has also held senior level marketing positions at General Mills and Coca-Cola and spent more than 15 years at Kellogg Co. in Canada, Italy and France.

Past recipients of this award include John Cassaday (Corus Entertainment), Alan Middleton (York University’s School of Business), Sunni Boot (ZenithOptimedia), Frank Palmer (DDB Canada) and Claude Lessard (Cossette).
