Following a competitive review, marketing communications firm Clever Samurai has been selected to work with hydro company PowerStream on its conservation marketing programs.
Like other local distribution companies, PowerStream, which services areas north of the GTA, has specific objectives and targets for energy conservation and demand reduction, and the agency’s work will centre around encouraging its customers to do just that, said Margo Hunnisett, vice-president of client services at Clever Samurai. PowerStream works with a number of agencies on a variety of projects including MacLaren McCann.
“[Local distribution companies] are often not noticed by their customers until there’s an outage, when the reality is day-to-day they’re providing an essential service to the community,” Hunnisett said. “Most of these organizations are typically owned by municipalities, so any sort of cost benefit that these companies generate are a huge benefit to the community and therefore right back to the customer. So it’s really important that they are positioned as a strong community partner and that’s typically what we aim to do.”
The shop, which counts Enersource Corporation, Burlington Hydro, Oshawa Power and Utilities Corporation, and the Toronto Public Library as clients, has a wealth of experience in the electricity distribution space, and it’s that familiarity and understanding that helped the agency earn the win, Hunnisett said.
“Because we’ve worked with the industry as long as we have, we understand some of the issues and challenges that these organizations face,” she added. “They’ve got a tough job out there, they have to keep the lights on for everyone in every circumstance and it’s important that they are seen as the valuable community partner that they are.”
Part of the 5th Business Group of Companies, Clever Samurai is headquartered in Toronto and also operates out of the U.S. and Australia.
