One of Canada’s most affable and admired community activists and health advocates, Rick Hansen, was recently honoured with The Canadian Public Relations Society (CPRS) 2012 President’s Award for Outstanding Public Relations and Communications Management.
Hansen was lauded at the CPRS National Awards of Excellence gala, the concluding event of the Canadian Public Relations Conference – Currents 2012.
According to a statement, Hansen said in a video acceptance speech, “On behalf of my entire organization and our communications team, I want to let you know what an honour it is to be recognized by the public relations community. Our culture is so engaged in the delivery of information; the mandate of your work is such a key cog in our age of content. You are the storytellers for Canadian organizations and I want to thank each and every one of you for making a difference in the lives of individuals in this country and around the world.”
The Rick Hansen Foundation works to raise awareness and funds for spinal cord injury research. Hansen also champions the cause of inclusiveness and making the world more accessible to those with various types of disability.
“The Board of Directors of the Canadian Public Relations Society is so pleased to honour a Canadian icon like Rick Hansen with this President’s Award. Rick epitomizes for us all the talent and effort it takes to create messages, branding, and affiliation with one’s stakeholder,” said Pierrette Leonard, past CPRS President, in a statement.
Hansen’s fellow award winners include General (retired) Rick Hillier and Kellie Garrett, senior vice-president of strategy, knowledge and reputation at Farm Credit Canada.
