DDB Worldwide Communications Group has appointed Jeff Swystun as its director of global communications.

In the newly created role, Swystun will be responsible for the enhancement and maintenance of the DDB Worldwide brand. He says one of his primary objectives is to present the agency as a cutting-edge firm.

“I think DDB suffers from the perception, because of its size and strength in traditional media, that it’s not progressive,” says Swystun. “But DDB has done a lot of great things in new media and we need to get that story out there.”

Swystun joins DDB from Interbrand in Toronto, where he held the title of global director and was responsible for the firm’s branding and marketing.

Both DDB and Interbrand are owned by Omnicom Group Inc.

Swystun will remain in his hometown of Ottawa, but will frequently shuttle to DDB Worldwide’s New York office.

In addition to his agency work, Swystun is a regular contributor to industry publications, including Marketing, and has appeared several times on television to discuss marketing issues. He is also a member of numerous industry boards and associations.
