Sure, he moved across the pond two years ago, but Alastair Taylor has made another big move: leaving Carat to join MEC Canada as senior vice-president and managing partner.

Taylor got his start at Carat in the U.K. in 2003 and joined the agency’s Toronto office in January 2011 as an account director. About six months into the job, he was promoted to VP, managing director.

Now at MEC, Taylor is responsible for strategy and insights as well as running the Molson business.

Michele Pauchuk, president of MEC Canada, said the role “merges a replacement with a new role.” Niall Mulholland, who previously handled the Molson account, “decided he wanted to take the summer off and he’s on his motorbike going across Europe,” she said.

“So we had to replace that, but I was looking for more depth in our strategic planning area and someone who really understood how to provide excellent client service and is good at new business. It wasn’t an easy find… but [Alastair] just fits the role brilliantly. He’s young and enthusiastic, but he also has done lots of new business and clients all rave about him, so we feel very fortunate to have him on board.”

Asked why he decided to move to MEC, Taylor said he “liked what Michele was saying” about building MEC, but was also intrigued by the prospect of working on the iconic Molson brands.

“It doesn’t get more Canadian than Canadian,” he said. “I can actually make a real, tangible change and help that brand become the powerhouse that it can be.”
