TMX Group sells Equicom to National Public Relations

New firm will be known as National Equicom

National Public Relations has acquired the investor relations and financial communications firm Equicom from TMX Group, the owner of the Toronto Stock Exchange.

National says the transaction will bolster its financial communications offerings and includes a multi-year referral agreement with TMX Group.  Financial terms were not disclosed.

Equicom has more than 120 small-cap and large-cap public companies as clients that are listed on the Toronto Stock Exchange, TSX Venture Exchange, Nasdaq, New York Stock Exchange, AMEX, ASX and AIM. The services of the 19-year-old firm include financial media relations, annual and quarterly report production, web development and event management.

The firm will be known as National Equicom and be led by Ronald Alepian, who was most recently chief communications officer and senior vice-president of New York City-based software company CA Technologies. Alepian has also led teams at Bell, Nortel and TMX Group.

“With the addition of Equicom, National can now offer a level of strategic support to clients that is unmatched by any firm in Canada,” said Andrew Molson, chairman of Res Publica Consulting Group, which owns National, in a statement.

Equicom’s leadership and client teams will remain in place following the transaction.
