Cat puked on the stairs? Friends arrived unannounced for dinner? Got dumped? No worries. Tourism Burnaby and agency partner Spring Advertising are providing a Southern-flavoured social media outlet for your blahs – TweetTheBlues.com.

Those who tweet their blues to @BurnabyBluesMan may get a customized song from legendary bluesman Jimmy D. Lane. When the song is ready, Lane sends a tweet directing the submitter to his live performance at TweetTheBlues.com.

The three-day social media campaign promotes the Burnaby Blues and Roots Festival and ends the morning of July 28.

“It’s really personal and really direct,” said Ben Hudson, a copywriter at Spring. “The hope is that people respond to that and share it with their friends.”

To drum-up a bit of buzz for the campaign, Spring also sent out a dozen (apparently functional) electric guitars to members of the media.

Hudson said the project’s goal to reach a new audience for Tourism Burnaby – 25-to 35-year olds who are heavy social media users.

The promotion runs live July 25 until July 27 from 8:00 am to noon PST. Live Nation is handling print and radio advertising for the festival which kicks off August 11.
