Watch This: Steven Stamkos versus the drones

Sport retailer continues its 'What are you sweating for campaign?'

Canadian pro hockey player Steven Stamkos takes aim at target-carrying drones in a video for Sport Chek.

Part of its campaign focused on training, the video features a candid Stamkos practicing his shooting accuracy. After hitting four ground-level targets in as many attempts, Sport Chek increased the level of difficulty.

Frederick Lecoq, the senior vice-president of marketing at Sport Chek’s parent company FGL Sports, told Marketing in July the goal of the campaign is to connect amateur and professional athletes, since every athlete sweats and trains.

The accuracy video was filmed at a rink in Etobicoke on the same day the sport retailer’s Back to Hockey TV spot was shot.

“Building a brand is around consistency and continuity. The world of marketing is changing, people aren’t buying content for a limited period of time. The more content you have you can sustain that momentum,” said Lecoq.
